Essentials of Social Media Marketing Textbook Review

Essentials for Social Media Marketing has been a really beneficial resource for this course and easy to navigate. I know now that I did not utilize the textbook to its full extent in the first half of the semester because I didn’t really have the time to sit down and explore the different elements in each chapter. However, in the second half of this semester, I really took advantage of the PowerPoints and chapter quizzes to familiarize myself with the material and study for the final exam.      I feel like the content in each chapter was very easy to understand and the layout of each section made sense to me. I had an online textbook in my history course over the summer and that was a nightmare for me – it was all text with very minimal headings or chapter organization. This online textbook was so easy to work with and made the information easier to comprehend. I definitely liked the set-up much better than any other experience with an online textbook material.      The simulation

Closing Weekend of Holiday

This weekend was ONU’s final performances of the Holiday Spectacular – in Lima! I have performed in large theaters before that hold many people in the audience, but typically those are only for camps and the house has certainly never been filled. However, performing at the Lima Civic Center was an entirely new experience. Not only was it one of the larger stages I have performed on, but every performance was almost sold out and the house was always packed with excited faces and chattering kids. The energy was so different from the performances in Ada, and I feel like I did some of my best work by feeding off of the excited energy of the audience in Lima. I am still very proud of how I did in each performance at ONU, but there was just something special about performing in Lima for such an enthusiastic group of people. This show really has been the best part of my semester. Beauty and the Beast was super stressful and really felt like a full-time job. I am still so proud of myself

Chapter 14 Reflection

Reading this chapter in Essentials of Social Media Marketing, I find it really interesting that this chapter comes after the work we did in the simulation. In week 7 or 9 of the simulation, we involved social media influencers into our options for marketing, instead of just posting my own content.      I found that I really enjoyed working with the influencers because it felt like there was less pressure on me to make good content. Don’t get me wrong, I really did enjoy the creativity aspect of creating posts and choosing the optimal times and days for them to be posted. However, there is something to be said for paying an influencer to handle posting for you. I also feel like a made a good choice the first time I chose an influencer and it paid off really well for the company. There was a really big revenue increase and I mostly just had to look at the analytics and shift things around, so we were getting the most bang for our buck.      A few things that I wish could have happ

The Holiday Spectacular & Thanksgiving Break

Picture by Michael Jordan Costumes by Ameera Ansari      The past two weeks have been filled with fun, family and, friends. My last personal blog post was centered around my podcast with Ruthie Osowski – which you should check out if you haven’t already. However, since I focused on my podcast in the last blog, I didn’t get a chance to talk about the fantastic opening weekend we had for the ONU Holiday Spectacular.      We opened on Thursday night and, I really felt like I killed it during every show for our first weekend. My track for the show includes the Angel, a Female Singer/Dancer, a Santa Baby and, a Toy Soldier. It feels like I am on stage for the entire show and I love every minute of it. As the Angel, I have the honor of singing the solo part in “O Holy Night”, which is sung during the Nativity scene in the production. I think my absolute best performances were on Thursday evening and on Saturday evening – the latter my entire family was able to attend. I am really proud of my

Social Media Podcast

I made my first ever podcast this weekend! Our podcast assignment was intended to discuss social media issues and topics. I knew right away after looking at the rubric who I wanted to join me in this podcast. Ruthie Osowski is our Social Media Coordinator for ONU Theatre Arts and, she manages all of our social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. She was also that main person in charge of our social media content during the run of Beauty and the Beast.    We discussed some really interesting topics, including how she got her position with ONU Theatre Arts, what some challenges are as it pertains to social media managing, what her process was like for planning the content in regard to Beauty and the Beast, some of the issues she had to deal with on different social media platforms with B&B content and, her personal take on the differences between running a personal social media account versus a professional social media account.      Ruthie is a year above me but,

Chapter 13 Reflection

This week in “Essentials of Social Media Marketing”, I read about social media marketing campaigns. I think this is really interesting and is probably the chapter that ties the most to my Arts Administration minor. In Arts Admin, even this semester in Grant Writing, we always talk about the many campaigns and processes run in order to keep a non-profit successful and to promote their work. Next fall, I will be taking Arts Marketing & Audience Development, which will tie even more into the idea of creating, planning, and overseeing a marketing campaign. I believe that is actually the final project for that course. It is cool to have some prior experience learning about a more specific kind of marketing campaign through this class – a social media marketing campaign.      Now, I know that currently I do not use many social media sites for my own personal use. However, I feel like taking this course is preparing me for using social media when it comes to Arts Administration and p

Missing Home

Image
I haven’t really though much this semester about being away from home. I was experiencing homesickness much earlier in the semester but putting all of my energy into Beauty and the Beast made it easy to forget that I was missing my family. I don’t think I have even had a free moment to think about the fact that I have been gone for almost twelve weeks.      I told my mom a few weeks ago that this semester had been so much easier because I wasn’t as homesick as last year. Unfortunately, this week, it hit me like a wall. I miss being home in my kitchen, which always smells like cinnamon sticks and apples, or cuddling up on the couch with my family to watch Marvel movies or the Mandolorian. I really miss my dog. My mom actually surprised me in my Halloween care package with a pillow that had Gracie’s picture on it. It now sits on my bed every day. I miss getting to cuddle with her on the couch in the mornings and driving up to our favorite walking trail and go for an adventure.
