Chapter 14 Reflection

Reading this chapter in Essentials of Social Media Marketing, I find it really interesting that this chapter comes after the work we did in the simulation. In week 7 or 9 of the simulation, we involved social media influencers into our options for marketing, instead of just posting my own content.

I found that I really enjoyed working with the influencers because it felt like there was less pressure on me to make good content. Don’t get me wrong, I really did enjoy the creativity aspect of creating posts and choosing the optimal times and days for them to be posted. However, there is something to be said for paying an influencer to handle posting for you. I also feel like a made a good choice the first time I chose an influencer and it paid off really well for the company. There was a really big revenue increase and I mostly just had to look at the analytics and shift things around, so we were getting the most bang for our buck.

A few things that I wish could have happened with the influencer element of the simulation were being able to give goals and objectives to the influencers and what we wanted content to look like, as well as taking more risks for myself and trying some of the types of influencer posting that I was too nervous or unfamiliar with to attempt. Some of those, rather than my usual “Branded Content” may have had a more beneficial outcome.

Comments

  1. Using influencers really does take away a ton of the workload in terms of crafting a good posting schedule. I do wish that the simulation would have put more work into making the influencers more interactive. It was surprising going from spending a ton of time making dozens of posts to spending five minutes selecting two influencers for a week. The influencers were very opaque in the simulation as opposed to the very transparent posts we made ourselves, which was irritating to me.
