Closing Weekend of Holiday

This weekend was ONU’s final performances of the Holiday Spectacular – in Lima! I have performed in large theaters before that hold many people in the audience, but typically those are only for camps and the house has certainly never been filled. However, performing at the Lima Civic Center was an entirely new experience. Not only was it one of the larger stages I have performed on, but every performance was almost sold out and the house was always packed with excited faces and chattering kids. The energy was so different from the performances in Ada, and I feel like I did some of my best work by feeding off of the excited energy of the audience in Lima. I am still very proud of how I did in each performance at ONU, but there was just something special about performing in Lima for such an enthusiastic group of people.

This show really has been the best part of my semester. Beauty and the Beast was super stressful and really felt like a full-time job. I am still so proud of myself for all that I accomplished on that production, but it isn’t what I truly love to do. Being able to perform on stage in Holiday really reminded me of who I am and why I do what I do. I just felt so happy to be on stage for every performance and so lucky to be doing what I love to do for an audience that was just as excited as me.

The closing of Holiday has been bittersweet. It is so sad that my favorite part of the semester has come to an end. However, there are many positives I can think of now that this year’s Holiday is complete. First, auditions of our spring season are upon us, which means that rehearsals for new and fun productions will begin soon. Second, now that Holiday is over I will be able to focus on studying for finals and ending this semester with a bang! Lastly, Holiday happens every year, so I can look forward to the fact that I am here for two more ONU Holiday Spectaculars!

  1. Emily, congratulations on wrapping up your performances in Holiday on such a high note! I love that in this post you talked about how getting to perform in Holiday really reminded you of what you're passionate about and why do what you do. Sometimes getting to experience something you love to do after not having been able to for a while is the best way to revive that excitement and love for it. I'm glad you've had such a successful semester of shows and that you were able to really do what you love in this year's Holiday Spectacular!
