The Holiday Spectacular & Thanksgiving Break

The past two weeks have been filled with fun, family and, friends. My last personal blog post was centered around my podcast with Ruthie Osowski – which you should check out if you haven’t already. However, since I focused on my podcast in the last blog, I didn’t get a chance to talk about the fantastic opening weekend we had for the ONU Holiday Spectacular.

We opened on Thursday night and, I really felt like I killed it during every show for our first weekend. My track for the show includes the Angel, a Female Singer/Dancer, a Santa Baby and, a Toy Soldier. It feels like I am on stage for the entire show and I love every minute of it. As the
Angel, I have the honor of singing the solo part in “O Holy Night”, which is sung during the Nativity scene in the production. I think my absolute best performances were on Thursday evening and on Saturday evening – the latter my entire family was able to attend. I am really proud of myself for all that I accomplished this semester. I stage managed my first production and I like to think I did a pretty great job at that. I then jumped right back into performing on the stage with my peers and have had the time of my life. It has all been so much work yet, so worth it.

After we closed the Ada weekend of the Holiday Spectacular, my family drove me home for Thanksgiving break. This break was certainly much needed. I feel like work has been piling up, and although I am proud of what I have been able to do to get back on track after finishing Beauty and the Beast, I was still feeling like I was barely staying afloat with my workload up until the opening of Holiday. Spending some time with family and destressing was exactly what I needed to give me the final push for the rest of this semester.

I know for a fact that the next two weeks are going to be crazy busy – with the closing weekend of the Holiday Spectacular in Lima, auditions for “42nd Street” and “A Doll’s House” (our spring semester productions), the Theatre Arts Dance Exhibition, voice juries, and final exams all crammed into this short period of time. However, I know that I can take these last few weeks on with the same way I have for the whole semester – with determination, hard work and, a lot of love and support from my friends and family.

  1. Hi Emily! I loved reading all about your time in the musical theater part of ONU and I hope to see you on stage one day before I graduate. I was sad that I was unable to attend the holiday show, I was greatly looking forward to it. Good luck on finals!

  2. Hi, Emily! Dad and I were blown away by the Holiday Spectacular and your performance in it. You've really grown since the last time we heard you sing on stage and it sounded amazing. Having you home for Thanksgiving was one of the things we were most thankful for and can't wait to see you again over winter break. Love you so much! Mom and Dad
