Chapter 5 Reflection

Similarly to Facebook, which we looked at in the last chapter of Essentials of Social Media Marketing, I am familiar with Instagram and how it works. The only two social media sites that I check regularly and update often are Facebook and Instagram.

My Instagram following is not all that big, as I am a private account and try not to accept follow requests from people I don’t know. I will likely start a page for my theatre arts professional marketing in the future, but for now, I only want to share my posts and experiences with people whom I know and care about,  who feel them same about me in return. Social media in the personal part of my life is about sharing experiences with friends and family who I may not be able to see all of the time or sharing/appreciating my friends and other things I find important. For example, I really only use my Instagram Stories to post about my friend’s birthdays, college reveals, sharing special events, or other posts that I think are important to be shared. My main posts are about big life events and fun stuff that I am doing with family. Sometimes there is a positive message/memo sprinkled into my feed as well.

I have talked about this before in some Chapter reflections, but I feel like many people in my generation, and younger, find that their value or worth comes from how many followers they get and the amount of likes on their most recent picture. I am trying to fight hard against that idea and use social media – specifically in a personal sense – in a way that makes me happy and not stressed. I do understand that when you are actually using social media as a form of marketing, as I will be in the near future with my performing arts career, that things like likes, follows, and engagements will be important.

The pictures you see are some of my favorite Instagram posts from my personal account! These are all special and give me something to look back and smile at. 📷
