B&B Tech Week
This weekend was the start of tech rehearsals for Beauty and the Beast – which opens this Saturday at 7:30pm! As the stage manager for this production, I am now at the peak of my job for this production. I ran rehearsals on Sunday and Monday for Q2Q, which is where we go through the show piece by piece so I can practice calling the cues for the crew and board operators. These rehearsals are typically very slow for cast members and, it was no different for this show.
Yesterday evening, the entire cast had off to rest their voices and prepare for runs of the show on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. The crew was also allowed to have the night off. The purpose of yesterday evening was to let designers and technical teams finish the brunt of their work before moving into the rest of the week. I came to rehearsal to work on my calling book and, I got to practice calling some big transitions with the orchestra. Calling the show has been pretty intimidating, especially since I have never stage managed before. However, once I sat down and got some help organizing yesterday, I am feeling much better going into the rest of the week.
I wont lie and say that I’ve been taking this all in stride – starting tech made me forget about personal well-being and my own health since I was so focused on getting everything right in the rehearsal room. However, on Tuesday afternoon, I look 45 minutes after class to sit outside in the sun, which helped to rejuvenate me and remind myself to take some self-care time. I also got out of rehearsal much earlier that usual yesterday, since the cast and crew were off, so I got to come home and spend a night making myself happy. I ate some dairy-free ice cream, watched Disney+ and, went to bed early. I am now feeling super prepared and positive for the rest of tech week and opening weekend! 😊🎭
