Opening Weekend!

This weekend was the opening for Beauty and the Beast! The show had a few hiccups on the technical side during Saturday’s evening performance, but Sunday was smooth sailing.

As many of you know, this is my first time stage managing. This show is massive – 30 cast members, 20 crew members, projections, large moving set pieces, lights, sound effects, and a whole bunch of props. I oversee all of these elements and make sure they happen and move at the correct times by calling on a headset from up in the booth. Considering all of this, I was very proud of myself for the work I did this weekend. I am also so proud of the acting company and the crew for making this weekend happen and working with me to make the show come alive.

I was live tweeting the performance through pre-show preparations, intermission, and closed with a post-show tweet. I am so glad I chose to tweet on Sunday, because everything went so smoothly and looked amazing. We had nineteen little girls dressed as Belle in the audience, which was absolutely adorable. We stayed almost fully on track with time and opened the house as planned. Overall, I think our Sunday show was fantastic. Saturday’s show had a few more blips – an audience member fell during one of the large dance numbers, a flying set piece was stuck and wouldn’t move to its next position, and some cues were called late because of the chaos going on. The acting company was amazing both days, there was just some tech issues on opening night. But they were all resolved for Sunday.

On Sunday, we also said goodbye to our director, who left to fly back to New York during intermission. Matt and I got really close during the rehearsal process and I am so glad to call him my friend. I didn’t add this into my live tweeting, since I knew it would make me emotional. However, we are still texting all the time, discussing this weekend’s awesome run and the plans/changes for next weekend. I am so grateful to have worked with him on the show.

    I heard this weekend's performances were a blast! I have heard nothing but great things about the show so far. There are always going to be kinks down the road that need to be worked out, but that's show business! I have to get my ticket for the next performances!

    From onstage, we never would’ve known the hiccups that were going on up in the booth! You recovered so well, and I’m so glad Sunday went better. We are so lucky to have you heading all of our tech for us!

    I am so excited to see that the show did very well! All the kinks aside I heard that it was amazing. For this being your first time stage managing I'm sure you did a great job; you are one of the most important pieces in this gigantic Beauty and The Beast puzzle. I look forward to hearing more about you experiences with other shows!

     Essentials for Social Media Marketing has been a really beneficial resource for this course and easy to navigate. I know now that I did not utilize the textbook to its full extent in the first half of the semester because I didn’t really have the time to sit down and explore the different elements in each chapter. Chapter 13 Reflection

     This week in “Essentials of Social Media Marketing”, I read about social media marketing campaigns. I think this is really interesting and is probably the chapter that ties the most to my Arts Administration minor. In Arts Admin, even this semester in Grant Writing, we always talk about the many campaigns and processes run in order to keep a non-profit successful and to promote their work. Next fall, I will be taking Arts Marketing & Audience Development, which will tie even more into the idea of creating, planning, and overseeing a marketing campaign. I believe that is actually the final project for that course. Social Media Podcast

     I made my first ever podcast this weekend! Our podcast assignment was intended to discuss social media issues and topics. I knew right away after looking at the rubric who I wanted to join me in this podcast. Ruthie Osowski is our Social Media Coordinator for ONU Theatre Arts and, she manages all of our social media accounts on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok. She was also that main person in charge of our social media content during the run of Beauty and the Beast.    We discussed some really interesting topics, including how she got her position with ONU Theatre Arts, what some challenges are as it pertains to social media managing, what her process was like for planning the content in regard to Beauty and the Beast, some of the issues she had to deal with on different social media platforms with B&B content and, her personal take on the differences between running a personal social media account versus a professional social media account.      Ruthie is a year above me but,
