Closing Weekend of B&B

This past weekend was the closing weekend of Beauty and the Beast. We started on Wednesday with a brush-up rehearsal to reacquaint ourselves with the show, since we had not practiced it in almost two weeks. The run on Wednesday night was not perfect, but we all expected to be a little rusty on our first night back. Then, Thursday evening was our first performance of the weekend. I feel like all of the shows went really well this weekend, each one better than the last. There were a few hiccups and a few missed sound cues – but other than that, I was very proud of the work from the cast and crew on each show.

On Friday afternoon, my parents came into town. My mom and dad took off of work on Friday and spent the day driving from Baltimore, Maryland to Ada, Ohio (8 hours!). My parents arrived in the afternoon on Friday and spent some time with me before my call time that evening for the Friday night performance. They were able to see the shows on Friday night and Saturday afternoon before starting the long drive back home. It was amazing to see them and spend time together. I mentioned this in an earlier blog post, but my parents and family mean everything to me. I had really been missing them, especially with all of the stress I was experiencing. So, it really made me feel good to see them and spend some time with them, even if it was only for one day.

Another exciting thing that happened during closing weekend was a surprise visit from our director, Matt! Matt lives in New York and flew home after the first weekend of shows ended. However, he surprised all of us my coming for Act II of Saturday’s night’s show and staying all through Monday morning. It was really great to spend some time with him, too, since we’ve become really close friends.

Everything that happened during the closing weekend was a blessing and made the end of final show bittersweet. I haven’t felt like myself the past few days now that the show is over. However, I am very excited that rehearsals for The ONU Holiday Spectacular have begun, which I am performing in! Getting back into singing and dancing is reminding me of what I love to do and making me so happy! 🎭

  1. I'm so glad to hear of the performances' success! So many of my friends had gone to the shows and said it was amazing. While it may be sad that what you've been spending so much time on is finally over, it'll be nice to have time for yourself to focus more on your school work and yourself. I hope you have a great time with the Holiday Spectacular!

  2. I heard the play was amazing! I have a buddy named Ben Schinder that was apart of the play and i wish i was able to see the performance but football took that away from me. Don't hate me but i've never seen Beauty and The Beast, i've seen little commercials about it on Disney Channel when I was younger but never took the time to watch it, mostly because I was a big Nickelodeon fan as a kid. Im glad you got to spend time with your parents and that your parents were there to watch your performance, i'm sure you killed it!
