Chapter 11 Reflection
I feel like I am a little detached from the rest of my generation when it comes to social media. I prefer Facebook to other social media platforms since I find it easiest to navigate and all of my family members are on there. I also have trouble getting excited about trying new social media platforms that come out. It took me years to join Snapchat and, once I did, I really only used it to play around with filters. I felt (and still feel) similarly about TikTok. Almost all of my friends downloaded TikTok the moment they heard about it and started spending a lot of time on the app. I was wary – did I really need another form of social media at the time? Would I even use it, or would it just take up space on my phone? In the end, I opted to not download TikTok.
I don’t think I have ever wished to have TikTok, either. I hear so often from my friends that they feel like they waste hours of their day “scrolling through TikTok”. I’m not saying it couldn’t be beneficial – I hear all the time about people who have gone viral on TikTok and are not receiving so much press and focus on them. Yet, the concept of posting short videos to an audio clip just doesn’t seem like it would suit my personal social media brand. I think it’s a really cool idea, just not something of interest to me. But who knows? Maybe I’ll get exposed to TikTok and I’ll find that I really enjoy it! If that happens, I’ll be sure to let you all know! 😊
I definitely agree Tik-Tok can be bad for you. I am guilty of getting stuck on there for hours on end. But hey, we wouldn’t have gone viral without it! One day you’ll download it, and be hooked just like the rest of us. (You could have a FYP full of just dogs.)
